Dec 4, 2007

Oh the holiday tags!

Here are my fun facts:

1) I have a Bacon Number of 4: My human (henceforth known as "I" or "me" in this post) sang with a rising opera star in a world premier operetta in 2003, who sang with Julie Andrews in NYC in 2005. Julie Andrews (I) was in Relative Values (2000) with Colin Firth Colin Firth was in Where the Truth Lies (2005) with Kevin Bacon

2) I adore manatees, and have swum with them in the Crystal River, which is in Central Florida.

3) I love to be the first person down a run on the ski slopes, hearing the quiet all around me as no other skiers are around, and making first tracks in the Snowcats' nicely groomed surface.

4) As a nurse at the House of God (if you get this reference, let me know), I frequently treated patients with leech therapy to improve blood flow to fingers that had been reattached after traumas (usually it was the trauma of being so stupid that building and playing with a pipe bomb seemed like a good idea).

5) I adore cooking and entertaining (shocker!), and one of my favorite dinner parties includes preparing 6 courses of food for my guests, asking them to each bring 2 bottles of their favorite wine (sometimes I specify a region sometimes I do not), and then on the fly I pair a wine with each course. These meals are generally followed by lengthy rounds of game play, or talking so as to allow the guests to be safe enough to drive home. :-)

6) I love roller coasters! I understand from my niece who works there that Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA now has a coaster, called the Griffon, that takes riders up 205 feet and sends them down at a 90 degree angle at 70 miles per hour. I am soooo there when spring comes!

7) I enjoy movies, but two of my all-time favorites are old ones: Gone With the Wind, and Casablanca. And what are the two eras of these films? Mid-19th Century, and the 1930s and 1940s. Perhaps this explains my interest in the Victorian era in both Europe and America, as well as my fascination with the 30s and 40s

8) And finally, not to be outdone, by the Kitten who tagged me (after Zealot did - God I hope I don't have to come up with 8 more bits of information), I have been taking a class at my work fitness center called Urban Striptease. One of the most effective courses I have ever taken if sore muscles are any indication. Awfully fun, though.

**now the rules**
The rules of tagging are simple, and as follows.
(1) Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
(2) People who are tagged need to write a post on their own blog (about their eight things) and post these rules.
(3) At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
(4) Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog

Since there is a HUGE loophole and I do not know many people unfortunately my dear I have to tag you. Doesnt mean you have to put eight more comments, just says I have to tag someone so...

buahahaha!!!

All right: I have succumbed to your request. You may read my eight statements on my blog, Proceedings of the Royal Society.

While this is at odds with my usual attempts to put some separation between my First and Second Lives, hopefully you and your readership will have some vicarious if not voyeuristic entertainment in reading the snippets.

Regards,

Kate Nicholas FRS

Your Grace,

I have already complied (dare I not?), and as well have posted my photographs from the Duchal Championship - you may find one or two to your liking.

Ah! How fun! As Sir Tele does not keep a blog, may I indulge, here, and piggy back? Ah, I thought you would say yes, old friend :)

Sir Tele's Typist's 8 Thingies, kept short as this is not his bloggage.

1) I read and write a lot, including as a significant part of my living.

2) I love poetry.

3) I am very physically active. I lift weights and do cardio at the gym for fun...there is nothing like lifting and eating after to make a middle aged guy feel twenty, or at least ten, years younger. I have also done martial arts off and on for years, and currently I'm healing from a tendon injury in my lower back before I consider re-embarking.

4) I love wine, food, and good spirits...especially gins and scottish whiskys. In fact, I have written about one of the above in print.

5) I love the Holidays and especially Christmas.

6) I know how to sail, and love few things more as recreation, though I hardly have gone this year and miss it...very much.

7) I consider myself a liberal Christian in real life (and in second life) and my avocation-hobby is NT studies and theology.

8) My fashion style mixes prep and punk, though these years, much more prep. Going to college in the 80's...I can't escape! I have a pink polo short in my closet at this very moment. Lots of buttondowns. Cords and khakis. Nautica and Tommy ties with stripes. All that.

This has begun to sound like a personsal ad...but, thing 9, I'm married with a wonderful stepson in high school.

Thanks, Duchess. I think you will be fine that I did this. I won't tag anyone else, cause I wasn't really tagged :)

Love to all. Specially the DLA :)

Sir Tele~
Thank you so much for posting your 8 facts. I am sure there are many in Caledon and elsewhere who are most pleased to learn a little bit more about you and your human.

My love to you, sir.
