Midsummer's Day

The cycle of life continues as it always does and we find ourselves at the solstice.  Here in the northern hemisphere it is the summer solstice, also known as midsummer.  I find that my life in virtual worlds is also cyclical. Currently my time in world is on the low side for a number of reasons (and nothing in particular) and therefore my blogging has ebbed along with my time in Second Life™. This is the normal shape of things - the normal cycle of life.

Today, however, I found myself desiring a private celebration of midsummer at the stone circle in my home sim of Winterfell Anodyne.  Happily I had the luxury of time to travel in world fulfilling this longing.

It was a peaceful, joyful celebration, which allowed me time for reflection and simple happy thoughts.

Additionally, I have had a song running through my mind for the last few days.  The lyrics - and the video, in fact - seem appropriate to the sentiment of solstice celebrations and therefore I share them with you.

My head is stuck in the clouds
She begs me to come down
Says "Boy quit foolin' around"
I told her "I love the view from up here
Warm sun and wind in my ear
We'll watch the world from above
As it turns to the rhythm of love"

We may only have tonight
But till the morning sun you're mine all mine
Play the Music low and swing to the rhythm of love

My heart beats like a drum
A guitar string to the strum
A beautiful song should be sung
She's got blue eyes deep like the sea
That roll back when she's laughing at me
She rises up like the tide
The moment her lips meet mine

We may only have tonight
But till the morning sun you're mine all mine

When the moon is low
We can dance in slow motion
And all your tears will subside
All your tears will dry

And long after I've gone
You'll still be humming along
And I will keep you in my mind
The way you make love so fine

We may only have tonight
But till the morning sun you're mine all mine
Play the music low and swing to the rhythm of love
Oh
Play the music low and swing to the rhythm of love
Yeah swing to the rhythm of love

Blessings on all of you.

Glory of the Day-Star, hail!
Lifter of the Light, Burnisher of the Sky.
Gifts of love to earth are bringing,
Summer’s shimmer, dew’s delight.
Dancing be the heart within us,
Open be our souls to bliss,
Courage vanquish every shadow,
Greet Midsummer with a kiss.
