BoobieThon 2012 - Week in Review Part II

$208,746L

$841.72 USD

This is the continuation of the review of the first week of our 2012 BoobieThon.

On Saturday afternoon, October 6th, there were some very fun & creative events.  The first was the En Garde Tournament held at the Prop Spinners Flight Deck and hosted by Miss Stereo Nacht.
Miss Nacht develped the tournament with a mind to fun and fund-raising - registration fees split between the winner and the BoobieThon donation kiosk, strip play, and creative awards.
A wonderful time was had by all participants.

Later that evening, Miss Zanya hosted a lingerie event at the Charity Way with music provided by DJ Piper Steampunk.

I was unable to attend either of these events due to real life commitments and am hoping that someone captured some photographs that they would be willing to share with the readers of this journal.

Sunday, October 7th found the Chess Garden in Winterfell filled with activity. BoobieThon Chess Tournament! Six hardy players sat down to the chess boards at the beginning of the tournament as onlookers filed into the gallery.  It was a lovely event.  I believe it may have even inspired several of us to dust off our chess pieces at home and prepare for next year!!  :)

Later in the evening, Co-Chairs, Rowan Derryth and PJ Trenton, opened the 3rd Annual BoobieThon Art Auction at RoHaus Gallery in Magna Carta.  The event was well attended and the bids are already beginning to soar for many of the fabulous original & limited edition art pieces.  The last bid will be taken on October 12th!  Please don't miss your chance to own one or more of these fantastic pieces - and support the Feel Your Boobies Foundation while you are at it.

Finally - we must mention that Scout Danger has done a remarkable job of coordinating, maintaining, and managing the BoobieThon Vendor Faire in Winterfell.

For the first week, the Second Life login page featured BoobieThon and this vendor faire location specifically.  Thankfully that increased the traffic to the area for sales and education about the work of the Feel Your Boobies Foundation.

BoobieThon 2012 - Week in Review Part I

$192, 942L

$779 USD
Current totals as of 9:00am 10-8-12

What a wonderful week it has been thanks to our generous donors, hosts, vendors, and artists!

BoobieThon has been quite fortunate to have the opportunity to work with so many wonderful people from all over the globe.  This year, as you may recall, we have expanded the 'thon to two weeks for a variety of reasons.  This has offered us the chance to expand the number of events and locations - sometimes quite spontaneously!

Thus far the events have been as follows:

Opening Night in the Garden of the Fæ - Hosted by Eva Bellambi with music from Icarus Ghost

Otenth Paderborn generously added BoobieThon to his normal Terpsicore Tuesday event on Day 2 of the BoobieThon.  We are so grateful for this spontaneous event and the generosity and caring of those in attendence.

On Wednsday, Magdalena Kamenev hosted and provided music for Salome's Dance at the Blue Mermaid in Caledon on Sea.  What a fantastic night it was!  Everyone in attendance was in great spirits and many shared stories about how breast cancer has effected their lives.

Thanks to PJ Trenton for the photographs. PJ's BoobieThon Album is here.

On Thursday evening, the Poetry Slam at der Hut held a breast-themed night.  It was great fun according to all in attendance and it helped push the dollars-raised up even higher.

Friday was a busy evening which began with the placement of the Venus di Milo from last year's art auction at the Consulate gardens in New Toulouse. Music provided by Radio Riel

Baron Klaus Wulfenbach and Art Auction Co-Chair Rowan Derryth

The party then moved to the Steelhead Ballroom where we all celebrated life in shades of pink.  Over $75,000L were raised at this particular event!!  Many thanks to Lunar, Tensai, and Fuzzball for hosting and providing the music.

Part II update will include the Saturday and Sunday events ending week 1 of BoobieThon 2012.

Saving Second Base is Planning BoobieThon 2010 Activities

Friday evening in Second Life found a committee of the group, Saving Second Base, in the Green Fairy pub in Winterfell discussing the serious issues surrounding the fun and irreverent fund-raising events planned for our 3rd Annual BoobieThon.

Miss Serra Anansi and I began raising money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation in conjunction with the real life BoobieThon back in 2008.  The often educational, but always humor-filled and enjoyable events have assisted in raising nearly $5000.00 US for breast cancer research and treatment in the last two years.  We are hopeful that 2010 will be even more successful.

For new readers of my blog, let me share a bit of history about BoobieThon in general.
www.boobiethon.com was started back in 2002 as a joke, really.  Several friends decided to use the power of the internet to help a newly divorced friend get a plan ticket to spend Thanksgiving with friends rather than alone.  The group easily raised the monies needed for the plane ticket ($359.00) and then having a greater appreciation for the good that was able to be done, they kept the site up.  In the words of the BoobieThon founder, Robyn Pollman:
It was then we realized that we had the power to really turn this into something real. Not a joke. But a way to save lives. The plane ticket was purchased as cheaply as possible and we kept the drive going to raise as much money as we possibly could for breast cancer. After all if we were going to use photos of boobies to raise money — we might as well try to save them along the way!
This is BoobieThon's 9th year and we in Second Life are proud to do even more to help support their efforts.  You will hear much more about everything that will be happening during the week of October 1-7, 2010, but here is a sampling of events:
  • Art Auction - October 1-6, 2010
  • BoobieBalls - October 2, 2010  10:30am-12:30pm SLT & 7:30p-9:30p SLT
  • BoobieThon Salons - October 3, 2010
  • Gypsy Caravan - October 1-7, 2010
  • Designer Vendors - October 1-7, 2010
  • Burlesque for Breasts - October 7, 2010 @ 7:00pm
We'll see you there!

MANY YEARS!

MANY YEARS!

Kate has taught me that "many years" is a traditional blessing that is given at the end of each Sunday service to those in her local Orthodox congregation who are celebrating birthdays. As I began thinking about writing this piece on our 3rd Rez Day celebration, I thought this was just the perfect thing to say avatars in SL. There are at least two reasons.

1)the desire to wish the person behind the avatar well, expressing the hope that their avatar will remain and flourish for years to come.
and 2) the recognition that every year in real life equals 6 years in SL. (Many years indeed.)

It felt good and right that Kate and I would celebrate our Rez Days together this year since we met on my very first day in world and have been fast friends ever since that time. Her real life has kept her out of SL a lot over the last year or so, but we do try our best to spend time together in world when the chance arises, plotting and planning good things for the Royal Society, or exploring, or simply just catching up.

There have certainly been times in the last 3 years that I have seriously considered giving Second Life up all together. I need not recount the reasons or dramas here, but I will say that there have been many lessons-learned.

What has kept me here?
Good friends are the first and foremost reason.

The outlet for creativity - expressed both in world and in this blog as well as others. The sheer joy of discovery that happens when one goes, for instance to visit AM Radio and his latest work of art.

The humor and silliness that can also happen are truly draws as well. It's good to be able to let one's hair down at times and just laugh and play.

I should also say that as someone who's human works full time in her professional field and is raising two fabulous children that one should not diminish the feeling of stress relief that can be gained by a friendly (or not so friendly) match on the tournament sands, the fencing piste, or behind the cannon of an ironclad. :) Sometimes you just can't top battles or blowing things up!

The STEAMY party itself was great fun! Thanks to all of you who attended. We went an hour over the scheduled time because we were all just having too much fun for it to end. And during that time as people came and went, we maintained about 35 or so guests. The dancing and conversation were fabulous, and the music provided by Gabrielle Riel was perfect! Once again, my dear cousin created a play list for us that was spot on.

Thanks also for all the good thoughts and well wishes; for presents and private notes. I will cherish these things - and do.

Much love & many years, my friends!
